Swimming Coaches
They help their participants to grow and develop their swimming technique and skills. Coaches guide and improve the existing technical skills of the aquatic discipline they work in.
A swimming Coach has an understanding of speed swimming techniques, a basic understanding of appropriate corrections to common faults and be able to deliver a series of effective training sets.
Coaching qualifications are delivered as follows:
Coaching Swimming (3 levels)
The first level of qualification (Level 1) focuses how and what to coach. Once completed, coaches are qualified to actively support a more senior qualified or licensed coach at any level, in the delivery of a pre-prepared session. You must be 16+ years of age at the start of the course.
To coach on your own, you will be required to hold a Level 2 qualification. This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge to effectively plan, prepare, deliver, monitor and evaluate coaching sessions. You must be 17 + years of age before the course begins.
The Level 3 qualification is only available for Coaching Swimming and is the route to becoming a senior coach. It will enable you to plan, implement, analyse and revise annual coaching programmes to get the most out of your athletes. You must be 18 + years of age before the course begins.
Typically, Level 1 qualifications cost £300, but don’t let lack of funds stand in the way. Learners are eligible to apply for SportScotland Subsidy funding for Teaching and Coaching courses.
