Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association is a voluntary organisation with Scottish Charity status that is committed to the teaching and coaching people of all ages to achieve their potential and further their passion for open-water swimming.

The Association was founded in 1884, and over the years we have had various degrees of success in open-water swimming. We have continued to promote the highest standards of swimming in Dundee through our affiliation to the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association (SASA) and Midland District Swimming Association (MDSA).

INDOOR TRAINING

The club has expert trained ASA qualified Teachers and Coaches who are committed to the future progress of the Association's swimming membership through the use of a 25 metre pool based in Dundee City Council's St. John's RC High School Community Sport's Wing.

OPEN WATER TRAINING

Over the summer months we operate a summer, open water, training programme for new swimmers looking to try open-water swimming and more experienced swimmers to build up to our open-water events. These sessions take place at Broughty Ferry Harbour and are supported by the association's many volunteers.

WHERE ARE WE

We are based at Broughty Ferry Pier during the summer months, in our purpose built 'Club House' which is part of the 14th Century Broughty Castle Harbour complex on the Beach Crescent waterfront.

CHAMPIONSHIP SWIMS

The club runs 14 championship swims each year (11 on the River Tay and 3 at Loch Earn in Perthshire). The distances range from 1 Mile to 8 Miles.

use the button below to find out more about our championship swims.

VOLUNTEERING

Our events could not happen without our volunteer boat crews, first aiders, technical officials and others.

YeAABA pays the volunteer registration fee to SASA, and provides training in the required skills.

THE YeAABA DOOK

We run an annual Broughty Ferry Dook on 1st January each year which in 2025 saw over 250 dookers take to the water.

Dookers can raise money for a charity of their own choice, and many do. A great deal of preparation and planning goes into this event and a significant number of volunteers are required to make it go smoothly
